Jobs For 15 Year Olds

15 can be a little bit of a difficult age. After all, you’re old enough to have a bit more responsibility, to be in high school, and to be thinking about your future. But in a lot of states, it can be difficult to find a job that helps you earn the kind of money that you need to start saving up. And at 15, with other kids working in jobs that don’t involve helping out around people’s houses or baby-sitting, you’ll start to wonder if maybe you, too, could find a job that seems a bit more exciting and further away from the realm of kid stuff.

When people usually think of jobs for 15 year olds, they tend to not think very creatively.

The focus is on where you can get hired, and there are a lot of places that you can find work at 15, often with very little extra paperwork. If a job is not considered a physical hazard, 15 year olds are eligible to work it. This means you can get started in a restaurant, find yourself working in a number of different retail spaces, and even find yourself working in an office.

But there are other options when it comes to jobs for 15 year olds that might be a little more exciting, and a whole lot more rewarding. After all, while you can only work a specific amount of hours in a typical retail job, if you somehow start a career as an actor or a model, you are free to work as much or as little as you like. And remember that you don’t just have to be thinking of Hollywood to make a decent chunk of money acting or modeling. Tons of teenagers do that sort of work locally in print and television ads, and find themselves making a healthy amount of money.

Likewise, if you have a particular talent that is obvious by 15, try to think of ways to make money doing it. If you’re a good guitarist, for example, consider giving lessons to younger children who are just starting out. This can often be a great way of making some extra money and also setting your own hours. Teenagers can also use their technology skills to great results. Countless high school students now focus on things like doing webpage design or helping people fix simple computer programs or set up new systems. Remember that you at 15 might find using a computer simple, but that there are lots of people who grew up before they were around who find things a whole lot more difficult.

If you’re not so up on technology, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a whole lot of jobs for 15 year olds out there for you that are also interesting. If you can swing it financially, think of taking on an internship at the local newspaper or at a weekly magazine. This is a great way to get some feedback on your writing, get started on a career you might find enjoyable, and even get a stipend. Also, with writing for a local newspaper or magazine, you also get the chance to enjoy freebies. Since writers get free access to concerts and sometimes even get copies of CDs to review before anyone else, that might be worth it for you. Especially considering that a whole lot of 15  year olds are spending their money on things like video games and CDs, anyway.
