General Merchandise Coordinator

Job Responsibilities:
Bring your energy and enthusiasm to this leadership role by developing relationships on campus with students, faculty, and staff. This is a great opportunity to assist in the management of the general merchandise department, which includes apparel, gifts, supplies and convenience items. Store sales volume is over a million, which 70% of sales are in text (4000 Titles). We are seeking a highly responsible, customer service driven leader who possess 1-3 years retail apparel experience, and who thrives in a fast paced, challenging and ever changing environment. This person is responsible for driving sales, financial management and ensuring store profit and productivity goals are met. Key components of the coordinator level position would include:
1. Ensuring stock room and floor space is organized and clean
2. Verifying proper receiving and ticketing of all general merchandise
3. Executing Home Office initiated markups and markdowns, analyzing financial reports, processing purchases orders, approving department invoices for payment
4. Building key partnerships with other store departments and campus organizations for promotional opportunities and special events
5. Assisting in supervising and training staff regarding merchandising and scanning requirements to ensure accuracy in support of inventory management
6. Providing outstanding customer service to a diverse customer base, including faculty students and staff
7. Conducting store walkthrough daily to observe: shelf stock levels, customer service, inventory placement
8. Assisting with off-site sales opportunities (e.g. basketball, football, graduation, etc)
9. Creating and maintaining merchandise displays in accordance with company standards and quarterly Promotions in Place manual
10. Maintaining price accuracy and merchandise on store website (efollett)
11. Coordinates the bookstore’s presence at athletic and graduation events (if applicable)
12. Processing and printing graduation orders.
13. Performing other duties as assigned by merchandise manager
Required Skills:
1. Minimum of Associate’s degree or similar experience required
2. One to three years of retail apparel experience
3. Ability to build teams and partnerships
4. Proven track record with people management and development
5. Ability to execute appropriate company directed visual merchandising standards
6. Retail knowledge of store operations and concepts, retail computer systems, and merchandising standards
7. Ability to lift 25 pounds; occasionally 50 pounds
